From Málaga airport there is no train to Marbella, Nerja or Granada; what is left is the bus, the taxi and a pre-booked transfer. The bus is the cheapest way to Marbella (Avanza, 45 minutes, from €6.48), ALSA reaches Granada in a little over two hours, and for Nerja the sources contradict each other. Local firms list €65 to €75 by taxi to Marbella, €70 to €85 to Nerja and €145 to €170 to Granada. A private transfer showed $109, $125 and $249 per vehicle in the Comfort class on 7 October 2026. Trap no. 1: the airport’s rail line stops at Fuengirola, and the vehicle class has to match your luggage.
The key numbers at a glance
If you land in Málaga and need to reach Marbella, Nerja or Granada, three options really hold up: the bus, the taxi and a pre-booked transfer. Every figure below was read on 6 October 2026 on the pages cited.
- Train: only the Cercanías line C1 (Málaga Centro-Alameda – Fuengirola) serves the airport. According to Aena it takes 8 minutes to Málaga María Zambrano, 12 to the centre, 34 to Fuengirola. Nothing runs to Marbella, Nerja or Granada.
- Bus: Avanza runs direct to Marbella (45 minutes, from €6.48), ALSA to Granada (about 2 h 15 to 2 h 30, roughly €13 to €15). For Nerja a direct service is not assured.
- Taxi (price lists of two local firms, up to 4 people): Marbella €65 to €75, Nerja €70 to €85, Granada €145 to €170.
- Pre-booked transfer (Comfort class, 4 people, 3 bags, on 7 October 2026): $109 to Marbella (60 km, about 1 h), $125 to Nerja (70 km, about 1 h), $249 to Granada (142 km, about 1 h 40), per vehicle.
The rule of thumb: travelling alone or as a couple and by day, the bus to Marbella is hard to beat. Late at night, with children, golf clubs, four suitcases, or heading for Nerja and Granada, a pre-booked transfer mostly buys certainty. What the ride weighs in the overall budget is in our one-week Spain budget.
The comparison in one table
| Option | Marbella | Nerja | Granada |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bus | Avanza direct · 45 min · from €6.48 | ALSA: direct service uncertain, otherwise via Málaga bus station (about €4 to €4.50) | ALSA direct · 2 h 15 to 2 h 30 · about €13–15 |
| Train | none (the C1 ends at Fuengirola) | none | no direct service from the airport; C1 to María Zambrano, then Renfe (check) |
| Taxi (local firms’ lists, 4 people) | €65 to €75 | €70 to €85 | €145 to €170 |
| Pre-booked transfer (Comfort, 4 people, 7 Oct 2026) | $109 · 60 km · about 1 h | $125 · 70 km · about 1 h | $249 · 142 km · about 1 h 40 |
Train and bus: Cercanías C1, express bus, Avanza and ALSA
The airport has an underground station on Cercanías line C1: good for Málaga, Torremolinos, Benalmádena and Fuengirola, not for the three destinations in this article. For central Málaga there is also the express bus: a single ticket is €4 according to Aena, luggage is free, and you pay on board in cash or by card.

To Marbella, Avanza runs direct from Terminal 3 (ground floor, arrivals) to the bus station: according to Avanza 45 minutes and from €6.48 (San Pedro de Alcántara 55 minutes, from €7.68; Estepona 1 h 15, from €10.24). The ticket office opposite the arrivals exit is open every day from 7:45 to 23:00, and you can buy online. We did not read the exact departure times from the airport: check them before you fly.

To Granada, ALSA links the airport to the city directly, according to Aena. Comparison sites showed on 6 October 2026 about 14 services a day, 2 h 15 to 2 h 30 of travel and prices of roughly €13 to €15. For the train from María Zambrano the sites contradict each other (direct in 1 h 23 to 25, or 2 h 54 with a change): check Renfe.
For Nerja the sources disagree: Aena lists an ALSA Nerja–airport line; a local guide says there is only one direct bus a week (on Mondays), a comparison site shows one every day at 14:30. What is certain is the detour via Málaga bus station: ALSA serves Nerja from there (€4.13 one way according to a local guide, 45 minutes to 1 h 50); the ride to the station comes on top.
Taxi, Uber and Bolt: tariff, supplements, price traps
The taxi rank is at arrivals (Taxi Unión and Unitaxi, per Aena). Aena publishes the tariffs for rides leaving the airport: a minimum fare of €17.37 on weekdays from 6:00 to 22:00, €21.72 on weekday evenings and nights and at weekends by day, €24.93 on Fridays from 22:00 and on weekend and holiday nights; a suitcase in the boot costs €0.56. The page gives no price to Marbella, Nerja or Granada. Uber and Bolt pick up, according to Aena, at their own points on the ground floor, not at the taxi rank.

Firm prices are found only at companies. Two local businesses (Servitaxi Costa del Sol and AJ Transfers) list, for up to four people: Marbella €65 and €75, Nerja €70 and €85, Granada (centre) €145 and €170. These are private companies’ price lists, not an official tariff, and we did not check their conditions. The gap shows that a taxi has no single price: have the sum stated before you get in.
The pre-booked transfer: what the booking page shows
A private transfer is a car with a driver charged per vehicle, not per person. On Kiwitaxi’s route pages on 6 October 2026 (search date shown: 7 October, prices in US dollars), the Comfort class (4 people, 3 bags) stood at $109 to Marbella, $125 to Nerja and $249 to Granada. The minivan (4 people, 4 bags) cost $116, $132 and $282, the 7-seat minibus $150, $183 and $298. The FAQ quotes “from” prices with a euro amount: $109 (€92) for Marbella, $125 (€106) for Nerja, $241 (€205) for Granada. The “from” price is the floor across all dates; only the price for your travel day counts.
According to the page, the price does not usually depend on the day or the time, except on major holidays or at big events; extra charges arise from an additional stop, a detour, longer waiting or a class change. On tolls the pages contradict each other: the airport page says they are covered, the route pages do not mention them. Check the summary before you pay.
The waiting time included is 90 minutes at the airport after the scheduled arrival time (the airport page counts from landing; read the stricter version). The driver waits after passport control and baggage claim, at the exit, with a name sign; the phone number arrives with the voucher. For a delay under 30 minutes the driver adjusts; beyond that, call.
Cancellation is free up to 16 hours before pick-up (Micro, Economy, Comfort, Minivan 4, Minibus 7), 24 hours for higher classes; refund in 5 to 7 banking days. You must book at least 16 or 24 hours ahead. Payment is online by Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay or Google Pay, on some routes with a deposit and the balance in cash. Child seats cost extra and must be booked, otherwise the driver may refuse the ride.
If you choose this option, you can book your transfer from Málaga airport; the vehicle class and the final price appear on screen before you pay.
Marbella, Nerja, Granada: which option for which destination
Marbella is not a single point: in the provider’s “all routes” list the “from” prices run from $91 (Elviria) through $108 (Marbella) and $116 (Puerto Banús) to $177 (Puente Romano). The bus stops at the bus station; for a beachfront hotel a taxi may still be needed. Enter the exact address for the transfer.
Nerja is 70 km from the airport, about an hour by car according to the route page. This is where the transfer has its best argument, since a reliable direct service is not established and the detour via Málaga bus station adds to the journey. The provider also lists Torrox Costa (from $107). From Nerja, an excursion to the white villages of Andalusia is easy to plan.

Granada is the longest of the three at 142 km: the transfer takes about 1 h 40, the ALSA bus 2 h 15 to 2 h 30. For four people, four bus tickets cost roughly €52 to €60, the transfer $249 in the Comfort class: it buys time and a door-to-door pick-up, not the lowest price. If you open the Málaga airport transfer page and enter Granada, you see every vehicle class. For a tour, see our one-week Andalusia itinerary; the season is in the article on when to visit Andalusia.

Can you rely on a booking made in advance? The reviews
On Trustpilot, Kiwitaxi stood on 6 October 2026 at 4.3 out of 5 from 1,089 reviews, of which 78% gave five stars and 16% one star: more than four customers in five satisfied, about one in six clearly not. Reviewers praise simple booking, polite and punctual drivers and clean vehicles; they complain of drivers who are late or absent, child seats not supplied and difficult communication at the airport. The 17,000-plus transfers since 2018 are the provider’s own figure, which we could not verify. If the driver does not show up, the help page says the money is refunded. We cite only Trustpilot, because the ratings the provider displays itself cannot be checked.
The traps and how to avoid them
- A train that does not exist. The C1 runs only between Málaga and Fuengirola (stops include Torremolinos and Benalmádena).
- The wrong vehicle class. Comfort takes 4 people and 3 bags, the minivan 4 people and 4 bags (Marbella: $109 against $116). Golf clubs, pushchairs and bikes go in the comment field; a standard bag measures at most 158 cm adding length, width and height.
- The “from” price. Granada was listed “from $241” but stood at $249 in the Comfort class on 7 October 2026.
- The dollar. When we checked, the pages showed US dollars; the currency can be changed.
- Taking another taxi. According to the route page, leaving the meeting point without getting in touch can jeopardise the refund.
Before you pay: the checks
- The date, time (scheduled arrival) and flight number are correct; the destination address is complete.
- People and luggage match the class; child seat, extra stop and golf clubs are entered.
- The final price matches the voucher, tolls are confirmed as included, and the cancellation deadline (16 or 24 hours) and payment method are noted.
- Confirmation and voucher have arrived (check spam); the driver’s phone number reaches you before the pick-up.
