Most day trips from Marrakech are worth booking ahead, but not Majorelle Garden tickets: those are sold only on the official portal. As of 7 October 2026, the garden costs 170 MAD and is sold online only, Agafay is 40 km away (45 to 60 minutes), the Ourika Valley about 60 km, and Merzouga is not realistic as a day trip. The number one trap is the unofficial street guide. Here is what to book, what it costs and what to check before paying.
The essentials before you book (as of 7 October 2026)
You can explore Marrakech itself on foot and by taxi, but the big outings are in the surroundings. This is what to know before paying:
- Majorelle Garden: 170 MAD, online only, with a 30-minute time slot.
- Palaces: 100 MAD each for a foreign adult (Ministry of Culture portal), open 9 am to 5 pm.
- Agafay: 40 km (45 to 60 minutes), Ourika Valley: about 60 km (1 to 1.5 hours), Essaouira: 160 to 175 km (2.5 to 3 hours). Merzouga is not a day trip.
- Hammam: 20 to 80 MAD at a neighbourhood bath, 150 to 350 MAD in the tourist version.
- Cancellation: free up to 24 hours before for most bookings (description of the GetYourGuide app).
Every figure comes from pages we read on 7 October 2026; for blogs and guides, the date of the source is given. Prices move: read them as a dated reading, not as an offer.
What to book ahead, and what not to
Not everything belongs on a platform. Some tickets are bought from whoever runs the site; other outings are better booked with pickup and a clear cancellation rule:
| What | Where to book | Price according to sources |
|---|---|---|
| Majorelle Garden | Official portal, online only | 170 (garden), 330 (three sites), 140 (YSL museum alone) |
| Bahia, El Badi, Saadian Tombs | Ticket desk or Ministry of Culture portal | 100 per palace (foreign adult) |
| Ourika, Atlas, Ouzoud, Essaouira | Tour with pickup, or get there yourself | 200 to 700 per trip (blog) |
| Agafay with dinner | Tour with return transfer | 250 to 1,500 (blog) |
| Hammam, official guide | On site, through your riad or an agency | Hammam 20 to 350; agree the guide’s fee first |
Majorelle, Bahia and El Badi: prices, hours, order of visit
Majorelle Garden tickets come from the official portal. The foundation states that tickets are sold online only and that it accepts no responsibility for tickets sold on non-authorised sites. A travel blog also mentions platforms such as GetYourGuide; because we could not confirm which QR code you receive there, the official route is the safe one.

2026 prices from two guides: garden 170 MAD, with the Berber museum 230 MAD, all three sites 330 MAD, YSL museum alone 140 MAD. Garden and YSL museum bought separately come to 170 + 140 = 310 MAD, so the three-site ticket adds the Berber museum for 20 MAD more. The final price appears on the portal.
The garden is open daily from 8 am to 5:30 pm (last entry 5 pm), the YSL museum from 10 am to 6 pm, closed on Wednesdays. From October to April, popular morning slots go 1 to 3 days ahead according to marrakech.me, and one blog found the garden already crowded at 9:30 am: take the first slot, and book early.
According to the Ministry of Culture ticket portal, Bahia, Badii (El Badi) and the Saadian Tombs each cost 100 MAD for a foreign adult and 50 MAD for a child aged 7 to 13. Older pages still show 70 MAD, as a January 2025 guide did. Budget 300 MAD for three palaces. The portal also lists the Menara Pavilion, hours 9 am to 5 pm; a local site reports a prayer break on Fridays. El Badi is about 900 m south of Jemaa el-Fna square.
Whether the palaces are within walking distance depends on where you sleep: medina or Gueliz explains the difference.
Day trips from Marrakech: distances, times and prices
A tour operator, a blog and a travel guide from summer 2026 give distances and prices. The numbers differ a little, hence these ranges:
| Destination | Distance, drive | Tour (blog, MAD) | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Agafay | 40 km, 40 to 60 min | 250 to 1,500 | Stone desert, no dunes |
| Ourika Valley | 50 to 60 km, 1 to 1.5 h | 200 to 500 | Spring, autumn; flash-flood risk in summer storms |
| Imlil, High Atlas | 60 to 65 km, 1.5 to 2 h | 300 to 700 | Villages, passes, hiking |
| Essaouira | 160 to 175 km, 2.5 to 3 h | 200 to 600 | Windy from June to August |
| Ouzoud Falls | 125 to 150 km, 2.5 to 3 h | 250 to 600 | Most water from March to June |
| Aït Benhaddou | 185 to 200 km, 3.5 to 4 h | 400 to 900 | Long day, over 7 h of driving |
As starting prices, an operator (shared tours) and a travel guide list 13 to 17 € for Ourika, 18 to 19 € for Ouzoud, 19 to 22 € for Essaouira and 25 € for Imlil. A tour makes sense if you do not want to drive; many offers mention hotel pickup, and the tour page says whether your accommodation is covered. On your own, the shared taxi in the Ourika costs 30 to 50 MAD per person each way according to a blog, so 2 × 30 to 50 = 60 to 100 MAD round trip. Offers and prices for your day are on the GetYourGuide Morocco page (tours and tickets): open it and choose Marrakech.

Ourika Valley. From Setti Fatma, the first waterfall is about a 30-minute walk, and the full seven-falls loop is a half-day scramble, according to a blog. Summer storms make the riverbed dangerous; to choose the season, see when to visit Morocco and avoid the heat.

Ouzoud and Essaouira. Ouzoud Falls are the tallest in the country, 110 metres over three tiers. The round trip is 5 to 6 hours on the road. Essaouira, on the Atlantic, has a UNESCO-listed medina and is breezy in high summer.
Agafay and the desert: what you get, and what is missing
Agafay is the desert Marrakech reaches in an evening: 40 km, 40 to 60 minutes. It is a stone desert, not a sea of dunes; a travel guide describes it as a moonscape of pale, rolling hills.

The range of 250 to 1,500 MAD shows how different the packages are: quad, camel, dinner show, pool, return transfer or a night in camp. According to page titles seen on 7 October 2026, GetYourGuide lists evening trips and packages with an overnight stay. Read the list of inclusions: what is covered, what costs extra, how do you get back?
For real dunes you need Merzouga: 8 to 10 hours of driving each way, so 16 to 20 hours round trip, and three days at minimum. Which desert fits your route is covered in Merzouga or Zagora, and the stages in the one-week itinerary.
Hammam: the neighbourhood bath or the tourist one
A Marrakech agency gives these ranges in March 2026: neighbourhood hammam 20 to 80 MAD, tourist hammam 150 to 350 MAD, with 30 minutes of massage 350 to 600 MAD, with 60 minutes 500 to 900 MAD, with hotel transfer 600 to 1,100 MAD.
The ritual lasts 1 to 3 hours; loincloth, towel and soap are provided on site according to the agency. Beware of touts in the medina who offer a hammam on the spot: prices are inflated and quality uncertain. Book directly at the venue or through your riad.
Official guides, taxis and common traps

The UK Foreign Office writes that it is common for people to pose as official tourist guides and harass visitors; it advises checking the badge and the local authority’s permission. According to an agency, an official guide holds a professional card issued by the Moroccan authorities, and guiding without one is illegal.
- An approach in the street, near monuments or at souk entrances, is warning sign number one. Rather book a guide through a riad, a hotel or an agency.
- “It is closed” or “there is a festival” usually steers you toward shops where the tout gets a cut.
- Agree the price and duration (half or full day) before the first step.
- Petit taxi: insist on the meter or agree the fare before getting in. The UK Foreign Office says ride-hailing vehicles are often unregulated.
- Jemaa el-Fna: a few dirhams to watch or photograph the shows are customary, and women offering henna actively approach passers-by. Ask permission before photographing anyone.

Booking on GetYourGuide: cancellation, ratings and what to check
Two ratings of the platform stand against each other, both read on 7 October 2026:
- Trustpilot: 3.9 out of 5 from more than 56,000 reviews, 68% five-star, 19% one-star (nearly one in five). Complaints cover last-minute cancellations, disputed refunds and tours cancelled for lack of a guide in the booked language.
- App Store: 4.9 out of 5 from 328,000 ratings. The app describes free cancellation up to 24 hours before for most bookings, and a “reserve now, pay later” option.
The figures contradict each other and we cannot prove why. What matters are the rules visible before you pay. A third-party guide of 9 October 2025 sums up: cancel less than 24 hours ahead or do not show up and you get no refund; refunds take 3 to 5 working days and, if the operator cancels, they are in full. With “pay later”, the card is charged 72 hours before.
A note on method: GetYourGuide’s pages refused automated reading on 6 and 7 October 2026 (access denied). The prices above therefore come from operators and blogs, not from the booking page; compare them with the price for your date on the GetYourGuide page for Morocco.
Before you pay: the checklist
Every item is on the offer page or in your confirmation:
- What is this activity’s cancellation rule, and until when is it free?
- What is included: entry, meals, quad or camel, return transfer?
- In which language does the tour run, and how big is the group?
- Where and when is the meeting point, and does the drive fit your day?
- For Majorelle: have you opened the official portal and chosen a slot?
- Does the season fit: Ourika in spring or autumn, Ouzoud from March to June, Essaouira not in windy high summer?
If those lines check out, you can open the offer for your dates. The simplest plan: two separate days, one in town on foot, one in the surroundings with 1 to 3 hours of driving each way.
