Friday evening, 9:17 pm. Saturday is open and I have no plan. I live in Mauritius and I built this app, yet I know this moment well: the island is full of options, but you have no wish to compare twenty places, check the sea and hunt for a restaurant nearby. That is exactly what one button in the app’s planner is for. I pressed it tonight, and the images in this article come from that very attempt.
The problem is not a lack of ideas
Mauritius never runs short of places to go. What goes wrong is the combination: a beach that will be choppy tomorrow in an easterly wind, a viewpoint an hour away from lunch, a restaurant you start looking for at 1 pm when everyone is already hungry. A day rarely fails because of a bad place. It fails because of the order.
So the feature does not ask “what do you want to see?”. It suggests a whole day that holds together. You can change it afterwards — but you no longer start from a blank page.

What I did, screen by screen
Tapping the button opens a small window. At the top, one sentence explains what will happen: a coherent day using live weather, your favourites not yet visited, a restaurant at lunch and dinner, all in the same area. Below, two rows of filters: nine categories (beaches, ocean, nature, culture…) and six regions. If nothing is ticked, everything counts.

I tapped “Generate my day”. A second later: “Day planned: 3 activities ✨”, with an undo button that stays for six seconds. For Saturday, three entries: at 8:30 am a boat trip to the northern islets; at 5:30 pm the Cap Malheureux viewpoint for sunset; at 7:30 pm dinner at Mayniko. All in the north, about 6 km and ten minutes’ drive between stops, according to the app.

Why three and not six? Because in Mauritius a boat trip takes the whole day — morning departure, barbecue on board or on the beach. The app knows this and blocks the six and a half hours after departure. So no lunch at 12:30, and that is the right answer.
What it is, what it allows, what it changes
What it is. A planner with six fixed slots: 8:30 and 10:30 am (sea and beach in the morning, when the lagoon is calm), 12:30 lunch, 2:30 pm (culture, nature, wellness), 5:30 pm a viewpoint or beach for sunset, 7:30 pm dinner.
What it allows. Each place is ranked by the conditions on that day: a place rated “risky” is not suggested at all, an “optimal” one moves up. Your favourites come first, places already planned or visited are skipped, and the first activity sets the region so you do not criss-cross the island. A touch of randomness means a second try gives a different day.
What it changes. The evening before a day off gets shorter. Instead of an hour between maps, weather sites and reviews, in ten seconds you have a plan you only need to adjust. And because the stops are close together, the day is spent there rather than in the car.
If the day already holds something, the button becomes “Complete my day”: your activities are kept and only empty slots are filled. “Replace everything” only changes upcoming activities — past ones stay in the travel journal.

What the day planner does not do

It books nothing. The plan is a suggestion in your planner. For the boat, the app shows a reminder to book your place with the operator and a contact button: the call is yours to make.
It favours discount partners, and I would rather say so. A provider who gives app users a discount gets a head start in the ranking. That is why the boat to the northern islets (−20%) came out on top tonight, and the restaurant is a partner too. If you do not like that, tap again or set a filter.
It only knows the app’s places — and never suggests a secret cove you have not unlocked yet. Niche activities (fishing, diving, golf) only appear if they are in your favourites.
It does not guarantee the weather. The ranking relies on the forecast, and forecasts can be wrong. In the morning, a look at the map is worth it — and for that the app needs a connection.
In the end it is a small feature that does one thing: it takes away the blank evening before a day off. It is included in the app, with no subscription.
