Bali airport transfer: what actually works for Seminyak, Canggu and Ubud

By the Moris Insider team·7 October 2026·8 min read

From Bali airport (Ngurah Rai, DPS) to Seminyak, Canggu or Ubud you have three options: the taxi from the counter in the terminal, Grab or Gojek, and a pre-booked transfer. The counter taxi costs roughly 100,000–250,000 Rp to Seminyak, 150,000–400,000 Rp to Canggu and 300,000–600,000 Rp to Ubud according to recent guides; we found no official price list. Grab and Gojek are often cheaper, but wait in a separate zone and will not pick up in parts of Ubud and Canggu. A pre-booked transfer starts at $23 (Seminyak), $26 (Canggu) and $29 (Ubud) per vehicle: not the cheapest way, but the most predictable. Trap number one is the touts in the arrivals hall.

The key numbers at a glance

Every figure was checked on 6 October 2026 on the pages named. They move with the season, the vehicle and the traffic: a snapshot, not a price list.

The rule of thumb: alone, by day and heading for Seminyak, Grab or the counter cost less. At night, with children, heavy luggage or an address deep in Ubud, the sums tip towards the pre-booked transfer: not on price, but on the certainty that someone is waiting.

Prices side by side

The counter and Grab ranges come from guides published June to September 2026 (visitbali.com, checked 15 September 2026; balinusatransport.id, 11 June 2026; pickyourtrail.com, 31 July and 3 August 2026); the transfer prices come from the route pages of the provider Kiwitaxi.

Two things stand out. The pre-booked transfer is not the cheapest way, least of all to Seminyak, where Grab costs only a fraction according to these sources. And counter prices vary widely: for Seminyak one source says 100,000–150,000 Rp, another 150,000–250,000 Rp. We found no readable official price list; a heybali.info report of 7 January 2026 on inflated quotes at the airport does not mention one either.

The counter taxi: fixed-price ticket, and the traps before it

The terminal has an official taxi counter with fixed-price zones. According to visitbali.com (checked 15 September 2026) you buy a zone-fare ticket there, which avoids the touts in the hall. It is simple, but not always cheap.

The trap comes before it. pickyourtrail.com (31 July 2026) advises ignoring anyone who approaches you at the airport before you have arranged a ride. How far prices can drift is shown by heybali.info (7 January 2026): to Berawa the app showed 200,000 Rp, the first driver asked 400,000 and the next ones 600,000 to 800,000. That is a single case, not the rule, but it shows the value of a price you know before getting in.

Three habits help: buy the ticket only at the counter inside the terminal, have the zone and the price for the whole car stated, and never get into a car with someone who approached you in the hall.

Grab and Gojek: yes at the airport, not in parts of Ubud

Both apps work at the airport, but not at the exit of the arrivals hall. According to visitbali.com the drivers wait in a designated zone outside the terminal, a short walk away; pickyourtrail.com (3 August 2026) speaks of official pickup points, while balinusatransport.id (11 June 2026) says the apps may not pick up within the terminal area. The details conflict; what is certain: you order after landing and walk to the point the app gives you, with roughly 10,000–12,000 Rp of airport fee on top (pickyourtrail.com, 31 July 2026). You need data straight away, so see our guide to the best eSIM for Bali.

Prices vary by source: balinusatransport.id gives 150,000–220,000 Rp to Ubud, pickyourtrail.com 300,000–450,000 Rp. Only the price the app shows when you order counts.

The real problem is in the other direction. In central Ubud (market, palace, Monkey Forest), around some Canggu beach clubs and near the Uluwatu temples, Grab and Gojek in practice cannot pick up, although drop-offs are never a problem. The cause is village (banjar) rules and local taxi cooperatives; cabobali.com also lists the Bukit peninsula, central Ubud and parts of Canggu in 2026. Anyone who must reach the airport early in the morning from the heart of Ubud cannot count on the app sending a car. The walk-out workaround is explained in our guide to getting around Bali.

The pre-booked transfer: what the booking pages show

A private transfer is a car with a driver for a fixed route at a fixed price. On the route pages of the provider Kiwitaxi we read starting prices on 6 October 2026 of $23 to Seminyak (11 km, about 20 minutes), $26 to Canggu (25 km, about 55 minutes) and $29 to Ubud, each per vehicle. The summary box on the same pages showed slightly higher “from” prices ($24, $31 and $31): what counts is the price you see for your vehicle class before confirming.

Three things neither the counter nor the app gives you. The price is known before the flight; according to the provider it normally depends neither on the weekend nor on the time of day, and can rise only on major holidays or events. The driver waits at the exit of the arrivals area, after passport control and baggage claim, with a name sign, and his number is on the voucher. And waiting time is included: per the help page 90 minutes after the scheduled arrival time (the Bali page says “from landing”; we plan on the stricter version), 15 minutes for a hotel pickup; beyond that the driver may ask for a surcharge.

Economy and Comfort take four people and three suitcases each according to the page, the minivan four and four, the minibus seven and seven; there are 14 classes up to 19 seats. Oversized luggage such as bicycles or golf clubs goes in the comment field; the help page does not name surfboards, so ask beforehand.

Standard classes should be booked at least 16 hours ahead, premium and minibuses of 10 seats or more 24 hours. Free cancellation runs, per the help page, up to 16 hours before departure (Economy, Comfort, minivan, small minibuses) or 24 hours (higher classes); the Bali page says 24 hours across the board, so plan on the longer deadline. Refunds take 5 to 7 banking days. You pay online in full, or a deposit with the balance in cash, by Visa, Mastercard or Apple Pay, in US dollars or euros. Child seats cost extra and must be ordered, otherwise the driver may refuse the ride.

You can check route and vehicle class before paying: see the transfer from Bali airport to your accommodation. The total price appears before you pay.

How reliable is the provider? The reviews

An independent platform says more than the provider’s own pitch. On 6 October 2026 Kiwitaxi stood at 4.3 out of 5 on Trustpilot across 1,089 reviews: 78% five-star, 3% four, 1% three, 2% two and 16% one-star. More than three in four are very satisfied, roughly one in six explicitly not; per Trustpilot, the provider replies to 97% of negative reviews.

The complaints are mostly about drivers who do not show up or arrive very late, and communication at the airport; the praise is for easy booking, professional drivers, clean vehicles and help with luggage. These reviews cover all of the provider’s destinations, not only Bali. Its own figures (15,421 transfers since 2018, more than 300 vetted drivers) we could not check independently.

You can lower the risk: enter the right flight number (otherwise the driver cannot track the flight), save the voucher offline, note the driver’s number and call if the delay passes 30 minutes. If nobody turns up, the help page points to customer support and then to the information desk.

Who should choose what?

Pre-booking makes sense if you land late at night or very early, are new to Bali, travel with children or lots of luggage, or stay in a lane in Ubud or Canggu you do not want to explain to a driver: address and phone number are on the voucher.

Grab or the counter are enough if you are going alone or as a pair, travelling light, by day, to Seminyak: the price gap is widest there and the ride is short. Where you sleep therefore matters; our guide on where to stay in Bali sorts the areas by journey time.

The return trip, Nyepi and onward to the ferry

On the way back, traffic decides. The car comes to your door, with 15 minutes of waiting included. From Ubud, pickyourtrail.com (3 August 2026) counts about an hour at night and 2 to 2.5 hours or more between 4 pm and 7 pm: for an evening flight you need more margin than any table promises. The same route can be arranged in the other direction: transfer from your accommodation to Bali airport.

A special case is Nyepi, the Day of Silence. The airport closes for 24 hours, in 2025 from 6 am on 29 March to 6 am on 30 March, with only medical evacuations and emergency flights excepted (ANTARA, 27 March 2025). The date changes every year, so check it before booking flight and transfer; according to gobaligo.id, Grab or taxis may not get through that day.

Heading straight for the Padang Bai ferry (Gili, Lombok)? About 60 kilometres, 1.5 to 2 hours (baliholidaysecrets.com, 27 July 2026). The crossings are covered in our two-week Bali and Lombok itinerary.

Before you pay: the checklist

  1. Flight number and time: enter the right number and set the pickup to the scheduled arrival; immigration can take 30 to 90 minutes.
  2. Vehicle: count people and suitcases (Economy and Comfort: 4 people, 3 suitcases; minivan: 4 and 4).
  3. Address: give the accommodation precisely, with name and phone number for lane addresses in Ubud and Canggu.

  1. Cancellation deadline: 16 hours for standard classes, 24 for higher ones; to be safe, plan on 24.
  2. Payment, child seat, oversized luggage: have the voucher currency ready, order the child seat, mention oversized luggage in the comment.
  3. Voucher and phone: save the voucher offline, note the driver’s number, keep your phone on.

Alone, travelling light, by day to Seminyak: take Grab. For everyone else, the provider’s page for Bali airport shows the vehicle class and the total price before payment. To place the transfer in the overall budget, see our two-week budget for Bali.
